Before the 2025 Indian Premier League, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) visited Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday. Team owner Sanjiv Goenka and captain Rishabh Pant were there. It was just a friendly visit, and the Chief Minister wished them well for the next IPL season.
CM Yogi Adityanath spoke highly of the Lucknow Super Giants’ past games, praising the team’s skill, discipline, and how well they play the game. He said he trusts the players will do their best and try to win the IPL 2025 trophy. “Lucknow Super Giants played great in past seasons. They are committed, disciplined, and show what the game is all about. I hope the players will play well and make the state proud this season, too,” said the Chief Minister.
Several important players, coaches, and managers were at the meeting, including Rishabh Pant (Captain), Aryan Juyal, Himmat Singh, Abdul Samad, other players, and the coaching staff.
LSG will play their first IPL 2025 match against Delhi Capitals on March 24 at the ACAVDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. Pant used to be the captain of Delhi Capitals.
LSG made it to the playoffs of the IPL in 2022 and 2023 but were knocked out in the Eliminator both times. In IPL 2024, LSG came in seventh place.
Pant, who bats left-handed and keeps wicket, became the priciest player in IPL history when LSG bought him for Rs 27 crore at last year’s big auction.
He’s now LSG’s fourth captain in their IPL history, after KL Rahul, Nicholas Pooran, and Krunal Pandya.
This is the second IPL team Pant will captain. He was the captain of Delhi Capitals (DC) from 2021 to 2024, except for the 2023 season when he was recovering from injuries he got in a car crash in December 2022.
