In the IPL 2024 match between Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants on Friday, Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant got into a heated argument with the on-field umpire.
The incident happened in the fourth over of the LSG’s innings. During this Pant asked for a review for a wide ball by Ishant Sharma, which was later confirmed. However, Pant argued with the umpire, with commentators suggesting that he was saying he didn’t ask for the review.
The former Australian cricket legend Adam Gilchrist expressed his disapproval of Pant’s on-field behavior during the match. Gilchrist criticized the Delhi Capitals captain and emphasized the importance of umpires being firm in handling such situations.
While having a conversation with Cricbuzz, Pant said, “I saw another example tonight where umpires need to take better control of games, and that is in any format. They just have to do a better job at moving things forward. There was a dispute over whether Rishabh had reviewed it. Okay, there was a miscommunication over the review call. But they stood there and spoke about that for 3-4 minutes.”
“It’s a very simple conversation, I believe. No matter how much Rishabh is complaining or any other player is complaining, umpires should just say, ‘It’s over’ and quickly move on. But if he keeps talking, he should get fined,” Gilchrist told Cricbuzz.
