LSG to target this Star batter in the IPL 2026 auction to replace David Miller

The LSG will hunt for a dynamic finisher in the IPL 2026 auction to take over the role and thus fill the gap left by the South African batter David Miller. The Lucknow Super Giants will have an available budget of INR 22.95 crores and need to fill six positions, four of which will be foreign players.

Why LSG Need A Six-Hitting Finisher

The Super Giants registered a phenomenal strike rate of 166.24 during the last season’s death overs and were the second-highest six-hitting (43) team in the last five overs. However, they also lost the second-highest number of wickets (38) in that phase, highlighting the necessity of more stability from LSG target players at the IPL 2026 auction.

Among the released players of LSG for 2026, Miller gathered only 153 runs in 11 innings at an average of 30.60. He managed with a strike rate of 127.49, which was not the level of power-hitter or finisher that one would expect. So, LSGs are targeting to get in the explosive hitters like Liam Livingstone, who can penetrate any bowling up and also rip off pace and spin equally, with his leaving. The Englishman also gives a flexible spin bowling option as he can bowl both off-spin and leg spin as per the requirement.

Why Liam Livingstone Should Be in LSG Target Players

If we refer to the left-hand dominated middle-order where captain Rishabh Pant and Nicholas Pooran are also a part of, Liam Livingstone is the best choice, who not just can play but also can add a right-hand option. His obtaining would further assist the Super Giants in keeping up the high run rate right along from the top to No.7, thereby leaving no space for the bowlers to hide.

Liam Livingstone had a very bad IPL 2025 season and managed to score just 112 runs in 10 matches with an average of 16 and a strike rate of 133.33. But his recent performances give credence to his potential and previous finishing innings. After the IPL, Livingstone scored 583 runs in just 16 innings at an average of 53 and a strike rate of 171.47 with three half-centuries, proving that he is able to hit sixes anytime he wants. In addition, Livingstone recently hit 33 runs in one over bowled by South African all-rounder Dwayne Pretorius, which included four consecutive sixes for Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the ILT20 2025-26.

The IPL 2026 auction is likely to bring to the forefront these significant LSG targets as the franchise aims at a blend of firepower and stability in the lower middle-order. Among the most sought-after LSG target players, Liam Livingstone is expected to be the one who will help the franchise in fortifying the squad for a successful title challenge.
