Kusal Mendis Shattered The Record Of Former Skipper Kumar Sangakkara In Test Cricket Against Ireland

Sri Lanka registered a great victory in the 2 test match series against Ireland. The Sri Lankan team won the first Test by an innings and 280 runs. Then they also won the second Test by an innings and 10 runs. In the second Test, a Sri Lankan batsman created a lot of havoc. Sri Lankan batsman Kusal Mendis completed his double century with 11 sixes.

Ireland won the toss in the second Test and elected to bat first. The Irish team scored 493 runs while batting first. When the Sri Lankan team came out to bat, their first four batsmen scored a century. Two of these included double centuries. Nishan Madhushanka scored 205 runs. Karunaratne scored 115 runs.

Coming out to bat at number three, Kusal Mendis scored 245 runs. Apart from this, Angelo Mathews scored 100 runs in 114 balls. In these four innings, Kusal Mendis’s innings was special because he scored the highest 245 runs and also scored the first double-century of his career. He hit 18 fours and 11 sixes in his innings.

Kusal Mendis has joined the special club by hitting 11 sixes. Actually, before Mendis, no Sri Lankan batsman had hit so many sixes in an inning of a Test match. Wasim Akram holds the record for hitting the most sixes in an inning of a Test. He hit 12 sixes against Zimbabwe.

Kusal Mendis has broken the record of his country’s senior player Kumar Sangakkara by hitting 11 sixes. Kumar Sangakkara had hit 8 sixes in a Test inning in 2014 while playing for Sri Lanka against Bangladesh.
