Kohli Or KL Rahul? Ravi Shastri Named Opening Partner Of Rohit Sharma In T20 World Cup 2022

Less than a month remains till Team India plays Pakistan in the opening game of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, which is set to take place at Melbourne Cricket Ground on October 23. However, India will first play four more T20Is and a few warm-up games.

The Indian team will be able to hone their preparations and get into the rhythm thanks to the T20 series against Australia and South Africa (3 T20Is).
There are many questions that the team management needs to address before India’s T20 World Cup match, with the team combination being the most important. Who will play at which position for the selected 11 players? India has been experimenting and testing a variety of possibilities in various positions since Rohit Sharma took over as captain in November of last year.

The opening slot was the one position where the greatest number of players were put to the test. Players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, and Virat Kohli also participated in the audition process, starting with the captain Rohit and KL Rahul.
The management has stated they will only use Rahul and Rohit, the original duo, during the T20 World Cup. Virat opened for India and got a century (122 not out) against Afghanistan on September 8 in Dubai during the Asia Cup Super 4. According to many other past greats and gurus in the game, Virat should bat alongside Rohit.

Ravi Shastri, a former Indian head coach, disagrees and provided a blunt response when asked about Team India’s opening lineup for the T20 World Cup.
Shastri reacted angrily to the conversation, claiming that it will only have an impact on Rahul’s mindset and preparation for the major event in Australia when speaking on Star Sports during the second T20I between India and Australia in Nagpur.
He said, “I wouldn’t want that. I would want Rahul and Rohit. If there is an emergency or there is an injury, then it is fine. Otherwise, I feel that you need that depth in the lower middle order and the experience, especially in the Australian conditions whereas a fast bowler can get wickets in the middle overs. There is enough bounce there and you can be aggressive and you can try and hustle out batters in those middle overs. So, you know, the experience of Kohli out there will be very important.”

He added, “And Rahul is batting beautifully at the top. Why cloud his imagination? Why confuse him? Why sow a seed in his mind that he might not be opening? You don’t want that. You want that guy to have clarity of thought, absolutely clear in his mindset that he is going to open and he is going to score and score big.”
Rahul, who was out for the majority of India’s T20I action this year, made a comeback at the Asia Cup, and in his past three T20I appearances for the Men in Blue, he has scored two half-centuries.
