Indian cricket team’s opening batsman KL Rahul has been ruled out of the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 due to a thigh injury. KL Rahul himself provided this information through his Instagram account.
Rahul sustained the injury during the RCB encounter on the 1st of May. He was immediately taken for scans, revealing that he needed surgery to overcome this injury.
The injury also means that Rahul will miss the remaining matches of the IPL along with the World Test Championship (WTC) final, scheduled between India and Australia in June.
“After careful consideration and consultation with the medical team, it’s been concluded that I’ll be undergoing surgery on my thigh shortly. My focus will be on my rehabilitation and recovery in the coming weeks. It’s a tough call, but I know it’s the right one to ensure a full recovery. I was gutted that I won’t be with Team India at the Oval next month. I’ll do everything possible to return to the blue and help my country. That has always been my focus and priority.” KL Rahul posted on his Instagram account.
Rahul, also the captain of the Lucknow Supergiants, was the backbone of his team in the batting department. He used to play an elemental part on their home ground in Lucknow’s batting by holding one end. His absence will be a big blow for the team, who are currently placed 2nd in IPL 2023 points table.
India will also miss Rahul’s services in the WTC final, where they will face Australia in Oval. In place of KL Rahul, BCCI can name Sarfraz Khan in the team as his perfect replacement. Although Sarfaraz’s recent performance in IPL is not impressive, his first-class stats are astonishing, which makes him the best contender.
