The mega-cash-rich league is going to start in less than a month’s time. Often regarded as one of the biggest cricket carnivals in India, the IPL is going to take center stage on March 22, with the Chennai Super Kings facing Royal Challengers Bangalore in the opening encounter.
However, ahead of the upcoming IPL season, KKR mentor Gautam Gambhir said that the only mantra for success in the IPL is to put complete focus on cricket.
In his recent interaction with star sports Gautam Gambhir, he said the IPL is pretty much close to the international level, and it’s the toughest Twenty20 league in the world.
Gambhir said, “I made it very clear on Day 1 that IPL is serious cricket for me. It’s not about Bollywood; it’s not about you; it’s not about after-party stuff. It’s about going out there and playing competitive cricket, and that’s the reason why I feel it is the toughest league in the world because it is proper cricket.”.
Gambhir further stated that “it is probably closest to international cricket as compared to any other league, and if you want to be known as a successful franchise, you should be able to deliver on the cricket field.”
The two-time IPL-winning captain also thanked KKR fans for their enormous support, as the fans went through a lot in the initial seasons of the IPL.
Speaking about KKR fans, Gambhir said, “I think there are very passionate fans. We need to be honest with them. We need to try and probably bring that happiness to their smiles because I’ve always believed I think the most loyal fans have been fans from Kolkata because they’ve gone through a lot in the first three years of the IPL.”
KKR will begin their IPL campaign on March 23, facing Sunrisers Hyderabad in their opening encounter.
