Even though they can’t make the playoffs anymore, the Lucknow Super Giants put on a great show, beating the Gujarat Titans by 33 runs on Thursday in Ahmedabad. LSG batted first and racked up an impressive 235 runs, with Mitchell Marsh scoring 117 runs from 64 balls. GT fought hard but couldn’t keep pace, finishing at 202 runs for 9 wickets. This win really hurt GT’s chances of finishing in the top two before the playoffs.
LSG’s head coach Justin Langer praised Rishabh Pant for his leadership and spirit. You can tell a lot about a person’s character when times are tough. Rishabh has been consistent through it all, and I admire that. With everything he’s faced in the past couple of years, he still steps up and plays hard for the team, Langer noted during the live broadcast. So, from that perspective, he’s done a great job. You wouldn’t notice how strong he is, and that’s a sign of real strength, he added.
Langer also mentioned that even though they’re out of the playoffs, LSG wants to finish the season on a high note. There’s always something to play for. Some guys haven’t had the best season, and they want to show what they can do. As a team, we know we haven’t been at our best lately, and while that’s not an excuse, we want to show that we have a solid team. It would be nice to end strongly, he said.
After losing to LSG, GT will take on Chennai Super Kings in their last league match on Sunday.
