Joe Root Picks The Highest Run-scorer And Wicket-taker For 2023 ODI World Cup

Former England captain and the star batter of the team Joe Root has predicted the leading run-scorer and wicket-taker for the ODI World Cup 2023. He feels that his teammate Jonny Bairstow is going to clinch the maximum runs and leg spinner Adil Rashid to get the most wickets in the upcoming tournament.

England was the winner of the previous edition of the ODI World Cup which was played in their country itself, beating New Zealand in the thrilling encounter. Now, they will look to join the elite list of West Indies and Australia who have defended their title.

In the 2019 edition, Root delivered a remarkable performance and bagged the fifth position in terms of scoring the most runs, where he got 556 runs in 11 matches, with an impressive average of 61.77. Bairstow also delivered a strong performance, securing the sixth position with 532 runs in an equal number of games and an outstanding strike rate of 92.84.

Speaking to ICC, Joe Root said,”I am going to go for Jonny Bairstow (to be the leading run-scorer). He is someone that always has a point to prove, he is a wonderful white-ball player and he has been so consistent for us at the top of the order.”

Root expressed that leg-spinner Adil Rashid would excel in Indian conditions and predicted him to be the top wicket-taker of the World Cup.

“He (Rashid) has so many different skills and variations to call upon. We know how important it is to take wickets in the middle overs…he has done a wonderful job for us for a long time and I anticipate him being very difficult on these wickets,” Root added.
