The biggest T-20 carnival is just around the corner, as the West Indies and the USA are all set to host the ICC T-20 World, which is going to be held in June.
However, ahead of the multination tournament, India has named their skipper for this edition of the T20 World Cup, which is none other than Rohit Sharma.
After team India’s loss to England in the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were excluded from the T20 format, and Hardik Pandya took the charge as the skipper of team India in the shortest format of the game.
However, after Team India’s loss in the final of the 2023 one-day world cup, both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma showed their interest in playing in the T20 world cup.
In an event, Bcci secretary Jay Shah said, “Although India may not have won the World Cup, they reached the finals of the tournament by winning 10 games on trott. I strongly believe that Team India will lift the World Cup in Barbados under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma.”
The event took place as the Saurashtra Cricket Association stadium was renamed after former first-class cricketer and cricket administrator Niranjan Shah.
The event took place just one day before the third test match between India and England, which is all set to take place in Rajkot.
The event was attended by Team India’s captain Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Mohammad Siraj, as well as several members of the coaching staff and chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar.
In the event, Indian cricketers Jaydev Unadkat, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Ravindra Jadeja were also facilitated.
Along with them, former India greats Anil Kumble and Sunil Gavaskar were also facilitated.
Sunil Gavaskar credited Niranjan Shah for playing such an important role in making Saurashtra what it has achieved till now.
Niranjan Shah is a former BCCI secretary and has played 12 first-class games from 1965 to 1975.
