“It was very important…”Kohli revealed how he convinced Rohit Sharma for the iconic photograph

8India managed to beat South Africa in the championship game to win the 2024 T20 World Cup in Barbados recently. Led by Rohit Sharma, the team claimed the title after 17 years, making it a very special and memorable occasion for everyone involved. Many photos of the players and team officials became popular after India’s victory, but one in particular will be remembered by cricket fans for a long time. It shows Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma together, holding the Indian flag and the World Cup trophy.

During an interview on Star Sports, Kohli explained how this famous picture was captured.

“It was also very important for Rohit. His family, including his daughter Samaira, was there with him. But during the celebration, I noticed he was always in the back. I suggested he should hold the trophy for a bit and we should take a photo together since we’ve been through a long journey,” Kohli mentioned.

Right after leading India to victory in the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Rohit Sharma decided to retire from T20 international cricket. Just before that, Virat Kohli also announced his retirement from the format, having won the Player of the Match Award for his 76 runs off 59 balls. Ravindra Jadeja also decided to retire on the same day.

Rohit ended his T20I career as a two-time World Cup winner and the top scorer, having made 4231 runs in 159 matches, including five centuries, which is the most by any male T20I batter.

On the other hand, Kohli ended his T20I career as India’s second-highest run-getter in the format, through 4188 runs in 125 games at an average of 48.69 and strike rate of 137.04.
