During the third week of ongoing farmers’ protests, a viral photo falsely claimed to capture former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni at a gurudwara amidst the demonstrations. However, fact-checking disclosed that the image is from 2022, taken in London, England and has nothing to do with the current protest.
The photo circulated on social media, portraying Dhoni’s alleged visit to a Gurudwara during the farmers’ protests, garnered praise for his supposed support of secular values. Nevertheless, India TV’s Fact Check team delved into the issue and traced the photo’s origins.
The viral photo was posted by an Instagram user Gurpreet Singh Anand, who had posted a similar image in 2022. Anand, recognized as the president of Khalsa Jatha British Isles, shared details of meeting Dhoni at the London Gurudwara in October 2022. A thorough scrutiny of Anand’s Instagram posts and media reports proved that this photo has its setting in London and the former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been forcefully dragged into the matter by some social media freaks.
Currently, MS Dhoni has started his full phase training for the upcoming IPL edition. The captain has been the talk of the town for his new look in which he can be seen in long hair similar to his initial days of career.
Last year, MS Dhoni became the joint captain with Rohit Sharma to lift the IPL trophy for at least five times. In the final of the 2023, Chennai Super Kings beat Gujarat Titans by five wickets to win the trophy.
