Is BCCI Planning To Sideline Rohit Sharma? Check The Big Plan Of BCCI On Rohit In The Upcoming Matches

Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma might be given a break during the upcoming all-format West Indies tour, according to reports. After shouldering captaincy responsibilities across all formats, Rohit’s workload has taken a toll on his form with the bat. With a busy schedule, the team management is considering resting him for the Test series or the white-ball assignments during the Caribbean tour.

Rohit Sharma has been juggling a hectic schedule ever since taking on the role of captain in all formats. He has struggled to find consistency despite a few promising performances, such as a century against New Zealand in ODIs and a century against Australia in Tests.

The recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) was a disappointing campaign for him, managing only 332 runs in 16 matches at a strike rate of 132.80. His form didn’t improve during the World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand, further emphasizing the need for some rest.

Considering Rohit’s jaded appearance during the IPL and the WTC final, the selectors are keen on giving him a break during the West Indies tour. A source close to the developments mentioned that he might miss either the Test series or the eight-match white-ball series comprising three ODIs and five T20Is. The selectors will discuss with Rohit and decide based on his inputs and their assessment of his workload and form.

Stating that the skipper could either miss the Test series or the white-ball assignments, a source close to developments told the Times of India.

“Rohit looked a bit tired during the IPL and the World Test Championship final in England. The selectors want him to rest for part of the West Indies tour. He’s likely to miss the Tests or the eight-match white-ball series (three ODIs and five T20Is) to follow. The selectors will speak to Rohit and then take a decision.”

If Rohit Sharma is rested for the two-match Test series, the leadership responsibilities could potentially fall on Ajinkya Rahane, who has recently showcased his resurgence as a reliable contributor.

Additionally, this presents an opportunity for Cheteshwar Pujara, struggling for form, to reclaim his place in the playing XI. With Rohit Sharma and regular captain Virat Kohli potentially missing the Test series, Pujara will have a chance to prove himself again.
