The All India Senior Selection Committee has announced the Rest of India (ROI) squad for the Irani Cup 2023. BCCI gave this information through an official Tweet. The Irani Cup match will be played in Gwalior from March 1 to March 5.
BCCI has announced Mayank Agarwal as the captain of the Rest of India team. He was the top run-getter in the recently concluded Ranji Trophy. He scored 990 runs in 13 innings, with the highest score of 249. Sarfaraz Khan will not play in this tournament. He has been ruled out of the team due to a finger injury. Sarfaraz Khan was unavailable for selection due to a fracture in his left-hand finger.
Bengal opener Abhimanyu will open the innings for the Rest of India along with Easwaran Agarwal. Other top-order batters in the Rest of India’s team include Yash Dhull, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Baba Inderjit, and Sudeep Kumar Gharami.
Delhi’s Sakariya, Navdeep Saini, Bengal’s Mukesh Kumar, and Akash Deep are the team’s fast bowlers. Left-arm spinner Saurabh Kumar from Uttar Pradesh and leg-spinner Mayank Markande from Punjab have been selected in the squad by a selection committee consisting of SS Das, S Sharath, Salil Ankola, and Subroto Banerjee.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Himanshu Mantri will lead Madhya Pradesh in the absence of regular skipper Aditya Srivastava. Most of the Ranji Trophy-winning squad members in June last year, including Rajat Patidar, Venkatesh Iyer, Avesh Khan, Shubham Sharma, and Yash Dubey, have been given their chances.
