The interim captain of Punjab Kings Sam Curran and the skipper of Royal Challengers Bengaluru Faf du Plessis have been imposed with significant fines for their conduct after their IPL 2024 matches on Sunday. RCB played against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens in the daytime, while Punjab Kings went up against Gujarat Titans in Mullanpur in the second match of the day.
RCB played better this time both in batting and bowling. Yet, they came close to winning but fell short by just one run. They were chasing a target of 223 runs but managed to score only 221 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
Due to the slow over-rate maintained by the visiting team, captain Faf du Plessis was fined Rs 12 lakh for the violation.
“Faf du Plessis, Captain, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 36 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on April 21, 2024,” stated an IPL release.
In the match between Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans, the home team was found to have violated the IPL Code of Conduct, committing a Level 1 offense under Article 2.8. Curran accepted the sanction from the Match Referee and has been fined 50 percent of his match fees.
“Sam Curran, the Punjab Kings captain, has been fined 50 percent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against the Gujarat Titans at the PCA New International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur on April 21,” the IPL release.
“Curran committed a Level 1 offense under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offense and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” it added.
