Ahead of IPL 2024, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced another setback as their recently acquired Bangladeshi fast bowler, Mustafizur Rahman, was taken off the field on a stretcher during the ongoing third ODI against Sri Lanka. It has raised the injury concern for the team.
At the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, during the ongoing third ODI between the two teams, Mustafizur Rahman encountered difficulties on the pitch, clutching his stomach in discomfort during the 42nd over. After the delivery of the final ball of that over, he collapsed to the ground. Mustafizur had managed to take two wickets for 39 runs in his nine overs before the incident.
In the 48th over, he returned to the pitch to bowl his final over, but his first attempt ended abruptly after failing to deliver the ball successfully. Mustafizur attempted to bowl with a shortened run-up but ended up bowling a wide ball. After that, it was concluded that he was not able to play and was taken off the field.
Instead of Mustafizur Rahman, Soumya Sarkar took over the bowling duties for the over. Sarkar managed to dismiss Maheesh Theekshana and conceded only five runs. Notably, Mustafizur had not participated in the series prior to this match. He was selected as a replacement for Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who was sidelined due to injury.
Mustafizur Rahman’s recent fitness issue comes as a significant setback to his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, CSK. Rahman was acquired by the CSK team during the IPL 2024 auction for his base price of INR 2 crores.
