IPL 2023: Why Shivam Dube Has the Most Sixes Against Spin This Year? Sunil Gavaskar Gives A Massive Statement

The former Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar has praised the young Indian batter Shivam Dube who is playing for Chennai Super Kings in the ongoing IPL 2023. Shivam is playing with all his power-hitting and getting those quick runs for the team in the middle overs.

While talking on Dube, Gavaskar said that the 29-year-old is continuously making runs for the team and it only happened because of the freedom provided to him by the Chennai Super Kings management. Little Master further mentioned that he is getting those big shots as he is playing his natural game and he has grabbed the opportunity CSK has imposed on him.

So far in the current season, Dube has smashed 30 sixes, with 19 of them coming against spin bowlers. Playing in the middle-order for Chennai, the tall left-hander has effectively fulfilled the role of demolishing spin bowling and has emerged as the player who has hit the most sixes against spin in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League.

“That’s what I have been saying about MS Dhoni’s captaincy. Shivam Dube has played for other franchises, but he hadn’t really got the freedom or encouragement to play his natural game,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.

Gavaskar notified that a specific role has been assigned to Dube during the middle-overs for CSK and he has clarity with it. Dube’s contribution has been crucial in providing momentum to CSK when needed. Dube has been granted the freedom to attack spin bowlers in the middle overs and this approach has brought results for the Chennai Super Kings.

“Here, he has got a fixed number to bat — pretty much No. 4 or No. 5. And he has capitalized on it. He has got enough overs to get in and play the big shots. He has not been moved up and down the order. When that happens, you go out and play in a completely natural way. He feels he belongs here,” Gavaskar added.
