In the 62nd match of Indian Premier League 2023, Gujarat Titans best Sunrisers Hyderabad by 34 runs and became the first team of this edition to register their place in the playoffs.
The match was played at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad where SRH captain Aiden Markram won the toss and elected to bowl first. Coming to bat, GT hung 188 runs on the board at the loss of nine wickets, thanks to the maiden IPL century of Shubman Gill where he scored 101 runs in just 58 balls with the help of 13 fours and one six.
Apatti from Gill, Sai Sudharsan also got 47 runs. However, the other batters failed at their end and did not cross the double figure.
For SRH, Bhuvneshwar Kumar grabbed five wickets while Marco Jansen, Fazalhaq Farooqi and T Natarajan got one wicket each.
Chasing the target of 189 runs, SRH had a poor start and they kept on losing the wickets. The South African dashing batter Heinrich Klaasen once again came to rescue the team with his brilliant 64 in just 44 balls but there was no one standing with him. On the other hand, Bhuvaneshvar Kumar scored 27 runs.
GT bowling revolved around Shami and Mohit Sharma who turned out to be their trump cards. They shared an account of four wickets each while Yash Dayal got one.
