IPL 2023: Sehwag Asks Questions From Ricky Ponting, Slams The DC Coach After Fifth Consecutive Loss

Delhi Capitals led by David Warner are yet to win a match in this ongoing season of IPL 2023. The team has not performed well in the tournament, having played five matches without winning any of them. They had their last encounter with Royal Challengers Bangalore in which they lost the match by 23 runs.

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has shared his opinion on the poor performances of the Delhi Capitals team in the ongoing 16th season of the Indian Premier League. Seeing the continuous failure of the team, Sehwag said that the DC coach Ricky Ponting should be responsible for all the poor performances of the team.

While discussing Cricbuzz, Sehwag said, “I think I said before that Punjab has passed on the axe to Delhi, so now the axe has reached Delhi. When a team wins, the coaches are credited, so when the team loses, they should be held responsible. Even though we said so many times that Ponting has done a brilliant job and taken them to the finals, they reach the playoffs almost every year now. He took all those credits; now he has to take this credit as well.”

Sehwag emphasized that one of the most important duties of the coaching staff in different IPL franchises is to manage players effectively and motivate them to perform at their best. He believes that coaches need to provide players with the necessary confidence and support to excel in the competition.

“This is not the Indian team where they take credit for the wins and for the losses, someone else is blamed. There is zero role for a coach in an IPL team. The big responsibility is man-management and to give the players that confidence, but in the end, a coach looks good only when the team performs well, which Delhi haven’t done it at all. I feel Delhi has reached that point where they are confused what should they do to change their fortune,” Sehwag concluded.
