Mumbai Indians (MI) has won the Indian Premier League (IPL) five times. However, in IPL 2022 the performance of Mumbai Indians was not that impressive and they finished 10th in the points table. Rohit Sharma has been the most important factor for the team more than a skipper or a batter.
Mumbai Performance in IPL 2022
The Rohit Sharma team lacked some star players last year as they did not retain some star players. However, the arrival of youngsters like Tilak Varma, Tristan Stubbs, and Tim David boosted their confidence and enlightened them with confidence to perform the best in the future.
Strength Of Mumbai Indians
The retention of established players such as Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, and Suryakumar Yadav, coupled with the recent inclusion of Camron Green, has strengthened the batting prowess of Mumbai Indians. Their presence makes Mumbai Indians more dangerous and influential.
Camron Green’s outstanding performance as an opener for Australia in the recent T20I series against India has likely attracted the attention of several IPL teams, including Mumbai Indians. If the team can identify an appropriate role for him in the middle order, pairing him with Tim David to finish the innings could be an irresistible prospect.
In the last edition, Mumbai Indians lacked sufficient quality in their fast bowling department, and they have made a conscious effort to address this weakness. While Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer were retained, the team got Jason Behrendorff via trade and signed Jhye Richardson at the base price. Unfortunately, Bumrah has been officially ruled out of the upcoming tournament due to a back injury.
Weakness Of Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians are lacking a wrist spinner after they left Rahul Chahar in the last mega auction in IPL 2022. Despite having Murugan Ashwin and Mayank Markande on their team last year, the Mumbai Indians were unable to make much use of their talents as both players failed to make a significant impact.
The Mumbai Indians’ scouting team has continued to search for new talent and has recently signed promising young leg-spinner Nehal Wadhere from Punjab. They also have Piyush Chawla and left-arm spinner Shams Mulani from Mumbai.
Kieron Pollard took his retirement from IPL this year and Mumbai will look to replace him with Cameron Green.
