Former Indian cricketer and now commentator Aakash Chopra has pointed out that MS Dhoni has shown glimpses of the past where he used to be destructive from the very first ball. Captain Cool smashed two back-to-back sixes against Lucknow Super Giants against Mark Wood.
On April 3, during the match between Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2023, MS Dhoni hit sixes on the first two balls he faced. This helped Chennai Super Kings to set a target of 218 runs against LSG. Later, the CSK restricted the opposition team to a score of 205/7, which led to a victory of 12 runs for Dhoni’s team.
Aakash Chopra shared a video on his Youtube Channel where he mentioned the return of MS Dhoni to his home ground of Chennai. He said that the performance of MS Dhoni in the IPL match against Lucknow Super Giants was a delightful moment for him.
“MS Dhoni scored 12 runs and the victory margin in Chennai’s win against Lucknow was 12 runs. CSK had come to Chennai after 1426 days – kya baat hai Thala. This love story is written in heaven. I am thinking about whether I am seeing the MS Dhoni of 2011 or 2023.”
Aakash Chopra mentioned that MS Dhoni hit an unconventional shot over the third-man region for a six against Mark Wood. This shot was unlike the typical shots played by Dhoni and showed his ability to adapt and innovate according to the situation of the game.
“Mark Wood, probably the fastest bowler in the world right now, was in front of MS Dhoni. The first ball was outside the off-stump, he played a cut and it went for a six over the third man. I was like – Wow.”
The former cricketer mentioned that the second six was even tough to execute but he did it with full grace.
