Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) team will soon have to decide who will be their captain as a meeting has been called for all IPL captains on March 30. The current captain Shreyas Iyer has been struggling with a back injury and has not been able to play regularly.
This meeting of captains will be held to give an update on the rule changes in the upcoming season. The meeting scheduled for March 30 will include updates on new guidelines such as the Impact Player concept and other minor changes.
As per a report from the Times of India, Shardul Thakur and Sunil Narine are the front-runners to become KKR’s interim captains. Shardul Thakur was traded from Delhi Capitals before the IPL 2023 auction. Both Shardul Thakur and Sunil Narine are seen as potential candidates to fill in as captain for KKR.
A source said, “Within a day or two, KKR is set to make the announcement of their new captain in a grand function, with their owner, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and an overseas pop star set to light up the occasion.”
It is being said that KKR management seems to be favoring Shardul Thakur as the interim captain due to his ability to communicate effectively with the Indian players on the team. Choosing Thakur will reduce all the communication barriers between the Indian domestic players.
Kolkata Knight Riders will play their first match on April 1 against the Punjab Kings in Mohali.
