Record Alert: Johnson Charles Scored The Fastest T20I Hundred For West Indies, Surpasses ‘Universal Boss’ Chris Gayle

On Sunday(26th March), Johnson Charles scored the fastest century by a West Indies player in T20 International cricket. This record earlier belonged to the universal boss Chris Gayle. The right-handed batsman achieved this milestone during the second T20I match against South Africa at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.

Gayle achieved this feat in 2016 in the T20 World Cup match against England at the Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai. Gayle scored a hundred off just 47 balls. This record had remained unbeaten for seven years until Johnson Charles surpassed it with his century against South Africa.

Johnson Charles completed his century in just 39 balls hitting a huge six over the extra cover region off Sisanda Magala’s bowling. With this, he also made the joint-second-fastest century in T20I. He shares this record with Sivakumar Periyalwar of Romania, who scored a hundred against Turkey in 2019, and Zeeshan Kukikhel of Hungary who achieved this feat against Austria in 2022 with the same number of balls.

At the moment, the record for the fastest T20I hundred is held jointly by Indian captain Rohit Sharma, David Miller of South Africa, and Sudesh Wickramasekara of the Czech Republic. All these players mentioned above have scored a century in just 35 balls.

With the help of Johnson Charles’s 118 runs West Indies posted 258 runs at the loss of five wickets in 20 overs.
