Indian Premier League is going on, and many young players of India are showing their extraordinary talent, which makes them the top contender for the senior Indian team. We have witnessed some fantastic knocks from Rinku Singh in the last over against Gujarat Titans. Yashavi Jasiwal’s fabulous century against Mumbai Indians. Another Indian wicketkeeper batter Jitesh Sharma is also constantly performing for his team Punjab in the lower order.
Punjab Kings picked him for 20 Lakhs in the auction, and he got the chance to play in place of English star batter Jhonny Bairstow, who was recovering from injury. In IPL 2023, he played 10 matches in which he scored 239 runs with a strike rate of 165.24.
Punjab Kings batting coach Wasim Jaffer praised Jitesh Sharma’s performance this season and stated he is ready to play for India as the wicketkeeper-batter is improving.
“Of course, last year, too, Jitesh had a decent performance. He has become even better; his batting has improved, and he’s already a good wicketkeeper. I know him from Vidarbha days; I played alongside him,” Jaffer said on the eve of PBKS’ match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Wasim further stated that he is improving himself a lot, and as a finisher, he has performed as we expected. Jitesh can bat no. 5 or 6 and fulfills the team’s demand, which shows he has enough capability to be featured in the Indian team.
“It feels nice to see him grow so well as a batter and as a finisher, because he has batted at No. 5, 6, even 7 and whatever the team has demanded, he has produced results against quality bowlers and teams. I feel he’s almost ready to play for the Indian team.” Jaffer further added.
