In the 40th match of Indian Premier League 2023, Sunrisers Hyderabad beat the Delhi Capitals by 9 runs. Delhi was once cruising towards the target but it was Mayank Markande who got the crucial breakthrough for SRH and turned the game into the favour.
The leg spinner of SRH Markande has received a lot of praise from the former England captain Michael Vaughan because batters have been struggling to read his deliveries in the current season of IPL. Vaughan has acknowledged Markande’s impressive performance and his ability to deceive the opposition with his bowling.
During the match between SRH and DC on April 29 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Mayank Markande was the most impressive bowler for Hyderabad. He managed to take two wickets and gave away only 20 runs in the quota of his four overs. His economical and smart bowling was crucial in helping his team defend a total of 198 runs against Delhi Capitals.
Former England batter said that it was difficult for the batters to hit Mayank Markande for big shots because he has variations to keep the batters guessing. Vaughan highlighted that Markande’s unpredictable bowling style made it hard for the batters to anticipate and hit his deliveries.
While speaking to Cricbuzz, Vaughan said,”He [Mayank Markande] is clever. He has got the ability to spin it either way. I don’t think he’s an easy bowler to pick, so the batters have got that kind of feeling of which way is it going to be spinning. It is hard to hit down the ground when you are not too sure which way it is spinning.”
Mayank Markande was instrumental in bringing SunRisers Hyderabad back into the match by taking a fantastic return catch to dismiss Philip Salt, who had scored 59 runs off just 35 balls. After this wicket, the runrate of DC slowed down and pressure started mounting around them. Later, Markande also dismissed Priyam Garg, which put SRH in a dominant position in the match.
