The former Indian batter and now renowned commentator Aakash Chopra has shown disappointment over Suyash Sharma’s approach in the match against Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens.
Aakash Chopra expressed his emotions as the young bowler from Kolkata Knight Riders attempted to bowl a wide delivery when Yashasvi Jaiswal was close to score a century in an IPL 2023 match against the KKR on May 11th.
Coming on his official Twitter handle, Aakash Chopra Tweeted,”Trying to bowl a wide to prevent Yashasvi from getting to his 100….poor taste IMHO.”
Aakash Chopra further expanded his Tweet and wrote,”Imagine a Pakistan bowler doing that to prevent Kohli from getting to his century. The same people who are giving gyan on how it’s absolutely okay…and that it wasn’t deliberate…will ensure that that bowler starts trending in minutes. Trolling level hi alag hota tab. Typical Twitter behaviour IMO.”
During the chase, Yashasvi Jaiswal had scored 94 runs and was at the non-striker’s end while the Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson was batting aggressively. In the 13th over, Samson faced a dot ball on the final delivery. Suyash tried to throw the ball down the leg-side in a manner to get a wide ball as it would restrict Jaiswal’s century. However, Samson was able to hit the ball with a straight bat and prevented it from going wide.
After completing his over, Suyash Sharma had a brash smile on his face, while Sanju Samson signalled Yashasvi Jaiswal to hit a six in the next over and reach his century. The moment Suyash finished his over, Rajasthan Royals needed only three runs to win the match.
In the first ball of the 14th over, Yashasvi Jaiswal struck a boundary and reached a score of 98 not out. With this, Rajasthan Royals won the match by nine wickets but Yashasvi fell short of achieving his second century by just two runs.
