On Tuesday, England fast bowler Jofra Archer was ruled out of next month’s Ashes series against Australia due to a stress fracture in his right elbow. Now Archer has also joined the growing list of injured England bowlers, which has caused a big blow to the team.
Archer, who was bought by Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians (MI) for a whopping amount of 8 crores in the IPL auction, failed to make an impact in his first season in the team. The former Rajasthan Royals (RR) star has played only five matches in the 2023 season of IPL.
Having suffered multiple injuries, Archer was sidelined for 17 months before returning to international cricket in January 2023. Former cricketer Kevin Pietersen has issued a scathing statement regarding Archer’s injury amid IPL 2023.
Kevin Pietersen stated that the return of the stress fracture could end Archer’s career in English cricket. He is very disappointed for Joffra and thinks this injury will probably end his journey with English cricket.
“I think this will probably end his journey with English cricket. I know that there are reports around a franchise contract, and that would be the smartest thing for him to do now. Take six months to recover, select a few tournaments to play, and bowl at the speed of light for a few months of the year. He would earn good money and still have a career in the game,” said Kevin Pietersen.
Kevin Pietersen further wrote that it’s not all his fault; it’s all about the injuries and fitness of a player. He should take proper rest as much as he can, but before this, he should take proper rest.
“I think the longer form of the game has passed him by. I think English cricket has probably passed him by. It’s no fault of his own, he’s just injury prone. As much as he would love to play for England because I know that’s his dream, it’s probably finished. He should now just go and cash in as much as he can in franchise cricket. But first of all, get himself fit.” Kevin Pietersen further added.
