After losing to India in the semi-final, England’s captain Jos Buttler said that the Indian team “played better” than his team and deserved to be in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup. He mentioned that India played well on a difficult field. The final match is scheduled for Saturday, where India will face South Africa. This comes after India’s big 68-run win against England at Providence Stadium in Guyana.
The Indian spin bowlers overcame the tough times against England’s strong play. The bad memory from 2022, when England beat India by 10 wickets, is now forgotten as the Indian team got their revenge.
Buttler praised India for playing well, saying they didn’t think the weather would change the conditions much after the rain.
“India definitely played better than us. We allowed them to score 20-25 extra runs. The pitch was tough, but they handled it well. They were better than us and definitely deserved to win. The conditions were very different from last year, and India did a great job. They played really well. Even with the rain, we didn’t expect the conditions to change much. They didn’t seem to change, and India bowled better than us,” Buttler explained after the game.
Buttler admitted that India was better on the Guyana field and praised the Indian team’s “great spinner” who got six wickets. The England captain also complimented his team for their hard work during the whole tournament, mentioning that they faced many challenges but still managed to play well at times.
“India scored more than enough runs. The coin toss wasn’t the main reason we lost. They have some really good spin bowlers. They scored more than enough runs, and with their excellent bowling, it was always going to be hard to chase. Considering all the difficulties we faced during the tournament, I’m proud of everyone’s effort. We can only play against the teams we face. We had many challenges, but we stayed strong as a team and played some good cricket at times, but we didn’t win when it was most important,” he said.
Team India will lock horns with the Proteas for the ultimate glory on June 29 in Barbados.
