IND vs ENG, 1st Test: Indian Batters Fail As England Beat The Hosts In a Nail Biter, This English Bowler Claimed 7 Wickets

In the first test match played between India and England at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, the hosts beat Rohit Sharma and his team by 28 runs and took a lead of 0-1 in the five-match Test series.

In this match, England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and elected to bat first. While batting first, Ben Stokes and their team scored 246 runs in the first innings with the help of Ben Stokes’s crucial 70 runs. Apart from him, Jonny Bairstow(37) and Ben Duckett(35) also got some runs with them.

India’s bowlers put up a commendable effort to restrict England’s innings. Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin emerged as the standout performers, each claiming three wickets. Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah provided valuable support, securing two wickets each.

While batting in the first innings, the Indian team with the support of Yashasvi Jaiswal(80), KL Rahul(86), and Ravindra Jadeja(87) put 436 runs on the board.

For England, Joe Root claimed four wickets while Rehan Ahmed and Tom Hartley got two wickets each, one wicket was secured by Jack Leach.

India had almost a lead of 200 runs on the basis of their first innings. While batting in the second innings, England kept an aggressive approach and got 420 runs. For England, Ollie Pope scored the maximum 196 runs on board.

While chasing the target of 228 runs, India kept losing their wickets at regular intervals and was bundled out on 202 runs. In the second innings, Rohit Sharma got the maximum 39 runs on board.

For England, in the second innings, Tom Hartley got seven wickets while Jack Leach and Joe Root managed to get one wicket each.
