“Impact Player” Rule Explained By BCCI, That Will Be Applied In The IPL 2023

The Board of Control for Cricket in India will introduce a new rule in the upcoming season of IPL. On Wednesday, BCCI shared a note to franchises about the new “impact player” rule. The rule book states that the “impact player rule can only be an Indian player unless four overseas players are not playing in the playing XI.”

If we explained this rule, it says any franchise can use overseas players as an impact players if there are only three overseas players in the team in starting playing XI.

“Only an overseas player who is part of 4 substitutes named in the team sheet can be used as an Impact Player. If a team introduces an overseas player as an Impact Player in a match, in no circumstance can a 5th overseas player take the field,” note by BCCI

Here we have explained how the Impact Player can be used:

The Captain will nominate the Impact Player, and the Impact Player can be introduced before the start of the innings, the fall of the wicket, or the batter retiring at any time.

An Impact player cannot act as a skipper.

The bowling team can also get an Impact player, but he cannot bowl the remaining ball of that over if the wicket has fallen in mid-over.

The replaced player can’t take place in the remainder of the match and is also not permitted as a substitute player.
