In the 16th edition of IPL 2023, the Delhi Capitals led by David Warner had a terrible season. They were unable to qualify for the playoffs and had a forgettable campaign. The team won just five matches and lost nine. They ended up in ninth place in the points table with 10 points from 14 games.
Even after a disappointing season, the Delhi Capitals had a few positives. The star all-rounder of DC, Axar Patel had a remarkable season where he shined with both his bat and ball. Patel was the highest run scorer for Delhi Capitals and where he scored 283 runs and added 11 wickets in his kitty.
Meanwhile, the former Indian opener and one of the most celebrated commentators, Aakash Chopra has slammed the DC management for not utilizing Axar Patel in a smart way. Aakash Chopra said that Axar Patel was among the players who were not fully utilized to their potential in the IPL 2023. He also speculated that Axar could have delivered even more impressive performances had he been playing under the leadership of MS Dhoni who is currently leading the Chennai Super Kings.
The first player who comes to my mind, although he still performed well, his name used to be there in the most valuable players’ list. Imagine if this player had been in MS Dhoni‘s team, he might have been this tournament’s best player, his name is Axar Patel. He was not getting to bat,” Aakash Chopra said on the ‘AakashVani’ show on JioCinema
He further added, “You wonder who was taking the decisions. You have David Warner as the captain of your team, and outside you have Ricky Ponting, Sourav Ganguly, Shane Watson, James Hopes, Ajit Agarkar, and Pravin Amre. You couldn’t figure out how to get the best out of this player despite having such a large think-tank.”
