ICC Awards 2023: Nominees For First Set Announced, T20I And Emerging Contenders Come Out

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the initial four shortlists for the ICC Awards 2023, recognizing standout performers in the running for the Men’s and Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year Awards, as well as the Emerging Men’s and Women’s Cricketer of the Year Awards.

A captivating year of competition in the shortest format has resulted in nominations from eight different nations for the T20I categories, underscoring the widespread talent across the global cricket landscape.

In the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year category, Suryakumar Yadav from India is vying for his second consecutive award, having previously been honored in the same category in 2022. This year Suryakumar Yadav faces competition from Mark Chapman of New Zealand, Alpesh Ramjani from Uganda, and Sikandar Raza of Zimbabwe, all of whom had some outstanding achievements in the shortest format of the game.

The nominations for the ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year include some of the most prominent names in women’s cricket. Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu showcased exceptional form throughout the year and is accompanied by England’s spin maestro Sophie Ecclestone, West Indies’ versatile icon Hayley Matthews, and the consistently outstanding Ellyse Perry, a former two-time winner of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year in 2019 and 2017.
