Currently, the Indian second-choice team is playing the ODI series against South Africa. In this series, Shikhar Dhawan is the skipper of the Indian side. Dhawan is out of the T20I combination from the upcoming ICC mega event in Australia. But the scenario of ODI cricket is different, and he rarely missed any 50-over match for India in the last two years. It is anticipated that Dhawan will open with Rohit in the upcoming 2023 ODI world cup.
Former wicketkeeper batter Saba Karim said that Dhawan is all set to be selected in the squad of 2023 World Cup.
He said, “Shikhar Dhawan’s place in the team has been confirmed. There’s no need to put pressure on him all the time. There will be one or two matches where he won’t score runs. I think the selectors have decided that Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan will be the openers in the next 50-over World Cup.”
Saba Karim also spoke about the young pacer Shardul Thakur. According to him, fast bowling all-rounder may find it difficult to get a place in the first-choice team. However, he praised Hardik comeback and applauded how Hardik has shown some astounding performance with bat and ball.
“He is a very useful player. But Hardik Pandya is a batting all-rounder, while Shardul Thakur is a bowling all-rounder. That’s a big difference. We can surely groom Shardul. But I don’t see him becoming India’s No.1 of No.2 bowler in white-ball cricket. He can only play as a third seamer. If he can bat well, it will be an added advantage”. He further added.
