The ODI World Cup is near and Team India is looking to settle down with their squad. Recently, the team is on the tour of West Indies where they have already clinched the Test series and eyeing on the same performance in the upcoming T20I and ODI series. Meanwhile, veteran Indian wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik has talked about the selection of Suryakumar Yadav in the upcoming 50 over world cup.
The RCB wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik said that despite Suryakumar Yadav’s recent mediocre performances in ODIs, he believes that MI batter should still be included in Team India’s squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Dinesh Karthik put forward the idea that Suryakumar Yadav would have an opportunity to showcase his abilities during the upcoming three-match ODI series against West Indies. Karthik backs the talented batsman and believed that Suryakumar would showcase his potential and perform with all his capabilities in the upcoming series.
While having a conversation with Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik said,”For me, the biggest person who can take home a lot in terms of confidence and in terms of giving confidence to the selectors as well, and as someone who is a world-class player but strangely hasn’t put a mark in ODI cricket, is Suryakumar Yadav.”
He further added,”He has had quite a lean run, in the last series against Australia, he got three ducks, and post that, we also saw what he can do in the IPL. He is somebody who can take the game away in a whiff of a breath. That is how special he is.”
“He is, in my mind, one of the best T20 players, and I have no doubt that he should be part of the World Cup squad.”
Suryakumar Yadav is exceptionally well in T20 cricket but he has struggled to replicate the same in the 50-over format. He has scored only 433 runs from 21 ODIs. With players like Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul absent from the squad, the 32-year-old cricketer now has another opportunity to establish himself in the Indian ODI team.
