Indian team leading the four test match series against Australia by 2-0. Everything is going well in the Indian team despite the poor performance of KL Rahul. Due to this, the Indian team snatched the vice-captaincy role from him, and now everyone assumes that he might not play the third test match against Australia starting from 1st March.
Observing the form of KL Rahul, former India captain Sourav Ganguly stated it would be difficult for Lokesh Rahul to avoid scathing criticism over a prolonged period of poor performance given the huge expectations.
Speaking to PTI, Ganguly stated that you would definitely be criticised when you don’t score runs in India. Rahul is not alone in it; many players have faced it in the past. KL Rahul has played some fantastic innings in England and Australia, but Ganguly said it is clear that people expect more from a talented player like Rahul.
“Lokesh Rahul has performed, but of course, you expect more from a top-order batter playing for India because the standards set by others are too high. When you fail for a while, there will be criticism. I am sure Rahul has the potential, and I am sure when he gets more opportunities, he will find ways to score runs,” said Ganguly.
Ganguly further praised KL Rahul and added that he is a very fine player. And at the end of the day, what the coach and skipper think matters.
“There’s so much focus and attention with a lot of pressure on players. The team management thinks he is an important player for the team. At the end of the day, what the coach and captain think is important. I am sure Rahul has the ability, and I am sure as, and when he gets more opportunities, he will have to find ways to score” Ganguly on KL Rahul.
Shubhman Gill has performed really well in every format of cricket. Speaking on his chance in the XI, Gill further added that he would get a lot of opportunities.
“I am sure when his time comes, and he will also get a lot of opportunities. The selectors, the captain and the coach, think of him and rate him very highly. That’s why he is playing ODIs and T20Is and has also performed. “But at the present moment, perhaps the message from team management is that he has to wait,” Ganguly further added.
