Mumbai Indians superstar pacer Jasprit Bumrah is likely to be ruled out from the upcoming IPL edition starting on 31st March. Bumrah has been suffering from a back injury for months and the recent reports from the BCCI officials have brought disappointment to the face of MI fans.
Fans were waiting to witness the thunderbolt pair of Jofra Archer and Bumrah but it seems like a long story now. However, the official confirmation from the Mumbai Indians is still awaited but Cricinformer is here with those three possible names who have the potential to replace Bumrah in Mumbai Indians if they drop the IPL 2023.
1) Sandeep Sharma – The Chandigarh player is considered to be one of the most skilled bowlers with a street-smart nature. However, Sandeep Sharma did not get any buyers in the mini IPL auction that happened in December. He has often kept the opposing batters on the back foot with his superb new ball skills and ability to swing it in both ways. He also has a good amount of experience in the prestigious league, which adds to his value as an important asset.
He has a 7.77 economy rate while picking up 114 wickets in the history of IPL and he could be the perfect replacement for Jasprit Bumrah.
2) Dasun Shanaka – The white-ball captain of Sri Lanka had been the most influential batter for his team when they toured India last month. However, many cricket experts still find it discriminatory as the batting all-rounder did not get any bid in the last year’s IPL Auction.
He might be a key player for Mumbai Indians in the tournament thanks to his ability to swing the new ball and put on outstanding performances when it is needed the most.
Shanaka has proven to be a reliable performer over the course of 176 games in the shortest format, scoring 3649 runs with a strike rate of 142.65. In addition, he has 53 wickets at an economy of 8.72.
3) Varun Aaron – The pacer from Ranchi had a base price of 50 Lakh in the IPl 2023 auction but failed to get any buyers. However, if management considers Varun Aaron for the IPL 2023 as Bumrah’s replacement, the pacer can really generate wonder under the remarkable coaching staff of Mumbai Indians.
He was a member of the Gujarat Titans squad that won the IPL title the past season, but his performance was poor as he averaged over 10 runs per over and only managed to take 2 wickets in 2 games.
Varun has till now played 52 matches in the IPL in which he has bagged 44 wickets to his name.
