‘I Am Learning It…’, Devon Conway Reveals His Plan Ahead Of 2023 ODI World Cup

The 2023 ODI World Cup will be entirely held in India. The schedule for this mega event is yet to be announced but before it, all the teams have already started the preparation. Before it, the star opener of New Zealand Devon Conway has revealed some of his plans for the upcoming marquee event in India.

New Zealand under Tom Latham is currently in India where the Black Caps suffered a 0-3 loss in the ODI series. Conway smashed 138 in the third ODI against India, in addition to scoring two test centuries in the series against Pakistan.

The powerful Kiwi opener has revealed that he has managed to pick up the unorthodox shots that are best suited to put more pressure on spinners. He claimed that because spinners are believed to be favored by Indian pitches, batters must master these shots if they want to be successful here.

After the third ODI against India, Devon Conway talked to the media during the post-match presentation where he said, “I’m certainly pretty happy with how things have gone, personally, over the last month-and-a-half. There’s been a lot of learning for me, how to attack spin in the subcontinent. I’ve had to learn how to sweep, reverse sweep and put bowlers under pressure as much as possible.”

Conway, who has a terrific record in all three formats and a double century on his Test debut, has established himself as a major force at the top for New Zealand. The left-handed batter expressed gratitude to his teammates for their support, which he believes has improved his batting. Moreover, he claimed that these observations would benefit him in preparation for the crucial 2023 ODI World Cup that will be held in India.

“I’ve been very fortunate to have good experience in our group. We had Kane [Williamson] with us in Pakistan, and it gave me the opportunity to have those conversations with him and Tommy Latham – guys who’ve played here in these conditions quite often – and see how they go about it. For me, I can take a lot of learning moving forward, especially for the World Cup coming up,” he added.
