‘His Instinct Is Equal To That Of MS Dhoni’, Sanjay Manjrekar Heaps Of Praise For The Star Indian Cricketer

Former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar has lauded wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul, stating that his instinct is on par with that of India’s World Cup-winning captain, MS Dhoni. India is gearing up to face South Africa in the first Test of the two-match series at the SuperSport Park Cricket Stadium in Centurion.

Head coach Rahul Dravid has already decided that KL Rahul will keep the wickets for the team in the first Test. India has never secured a Test series victory in South Africa. They have lost seven and drawn one out of the eight Test series played in the country.

While having a conversation with ESPNcricinfo, Sanjay Manjrekar said that KL Rahul’s instinct in captaincy is almost equal to the former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Rahul becomes the second Indian captain after Virat Kohli to win an ODI series in South Africa.

“These days, when you see KL Rahul on the ground, he looks very relaxed and in a good mind space. He captained as expected. He looks comfortable in the leadership role. He has led a lot in the IPL, in a Test match in South Africa, and one-day matches as well. You can expect KL Rahul not to make any big mistakes. He is an expert in DRS. His instinct is equal to that of MS Dhoni,” said Manjrekar.

Manjrekar said that the Indian players are doing well even though there is continuous cricket after the 2023 ODI World Cup.

“It seems like Indian cricket is running on autopilot mode. Suryakumar Yadav won as captain recently, KL Rahul now. Rohit Sharma has also won a lot of games for India. A lot of credit for the success must go to the players. Captaincy is good, but not game-changing. It’s the players who are doing well,” Manjrekar added.
