A three-match ODI series will be played between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan from June 2, for which the Afghanistan Cricket Board has announced the team. This series is important for both teams regarding preparation for the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023.
Apart from the 15-member team, Afghanistan Cricket Team has kept 4 players as reserve. Young star all-rounder Abdul Rahman has a chance in the team for the ODI series against Sri Lanka after his impressive performance in domestic cricket.
The Afghanistan team, announcing its team for the ODI series against Sri Lanka (AFG vs. SL), has included 4 players in the reserved category, including Shahdullah Kamal, Yamin Ahmadzai, Zia ur Rehman Akbar, and Gulbadin Naib.
The command of the Afghanistan ODI team has been handed over to Hashmatullah Shahidi, while Rahmat Shah has been made the vice-captain. This series will start from 2nd June and be played until 7th June.
The Afghanistan team has already qualified for the ODI World Cup 2023, while Sri Lanka has to play qualifiers matches. Hashmatullah’s team currently has bowlers ranked in the top 10 of the ODI bowlers rankings, with Rashid Khan (6th), Mujeeb ur Rahman (8th), and Mohammad Nabi (10th) being present.
Recently, Afghanistan Cricket Board President Mirwaiz Ashraf said it is a good feeling to give a chance to some young players in this series. Our team is already in good form for the World Cup, but we want to prepare as much as possible to get a good team.
