The defending champions Chennai Super Kings started off their campaign in style as they defeated the Red Army Royal Challengers Bangaluru in their opening encounter by six wickets.
It was an absolute bowling show from Mustafizur Rahman (4/29), who helped CSK restrict RCB to 173/6.
After CSK’s victory, their newly appointed skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad, said, “We were in control right from the start.”.
Gaikwad said, “There were 2-3 overs here and there, but once the spinners and Fizz (Mustafizur) came on, we were in control. Yes, 10-15 runs less would have been great, but they came back well.”
Gaikwad even revealed the turning point of the match.
Speaking of the same, Gaikwad said, “To get Maxwell and even Faf out, those quick wickets were the turning point. It helped us control the next six overs. That was the main point.”
Gaikwad said that he always enjoys captaincy, and with Ms. Dhoni there to guide him,his job becomes much easier.
Gaikwad said, “I have always enjoyed it. I haven’t felt the additional pressure, right from the state side. Not even a single time did I feel pressured by anything. Obviously, I had Mahi Bhai with me.”
On the other hand, Faf du Plessis admitted that losing wickets at regular intervals kept them 20 runs short, which in the end cost them the match.
