In the third match of the super-4 stage in the Asia Cup 2023, star Indian batter Virat Kohli smashed a terrific hundred and marked his 47th in the 50-over format. The only player ahead of him is former Indian legend Sachin Tendukar with 49 ODI centuries. Former Pakistani legend Waqar Younis also praised Kohli and predicted that the Indian batter will smash the most number of centuries than anyone else in this format.
While talking to Star Sports, Waqar said,”The difference between him and other players, even Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin Tendulkar, when he finished, had 49 hundreds (ODIs). I can promise you Virat is a long way from finishing his career or being done with cricket. He will end up with a lot more (hundreds) than anybody can think.”
Virat Kohli is now just two centuries away from levelling Sachin Tendulkar’s illustrious all-time ODI record of 49 centuries. With this century against Pakistan at Colombo, Kohli has also touched the milestone of 13,000 runs in ODI cricket and he is the fastest to do so in this format.
Against Pakistan, Kohli smashed 122 runs in 94 balls with the help of 9 fours and three sixes.
Former Pakistan captain Waqar Younis backed Virat Kohli to not just go past Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 49 ODI hundreds but to finish his career with more 3-figure scores than anyone could think of. Waqar’s big prediction came after Kohli hit his 47th ODI hundred in a match-winning cause against Pakistan in a Super Fours match of Asia Cup 2023 on Monday.
