Former Indian cricketer, Sanjay Manjrekar feels that among the star Indian batters, Virat Kohli is the only player whom the team management can give rest for the upcoming Asia Cup Super 4s match. He firmly rejects the idea of resting KL Rahul who is making a comeback after a prolonged injury.
Virat Kohli displayed his remarkable batting by scoring his 47th ODI century, while KL Rahul also smashed a century on his comeback to team India. India convincingly defeated a lackluster Pakistan side by a historic margin of 228 runs in a rain-affected Asia Cup Super Four match on Sunday. This victory marks India’s biggest win over their arch-rivals in terms of runs.
While talking to the Asia Cup broadcasters, Manjrekar Said,”I think they will go with their full-strength team. They want to win that game and maybe in that final, you know the Super Four game, they might want to try something. The only player they can rest is Virat Kohli honestly, because he is in form and he can come back and catch up with where he left off.”
“Rahul, he’s just got 100. He’s feeling great about himself. Let him go in there and get another. He’s match fit. So now you shouldn’t be talking about resting him. If he’s match-fit, he should be playing. The only person that I feel will not change the balance too much and can afford to come back and rest him and he will be fine,” Manjrekar added.
Kohli and Rahul formed an outstanding unbeaten partnership of 233 runs for the third wicket. Now it is the highest ODI partnership against Pakistan by India. During his journey to his 77th international century, Kohli became the fastest to reach 13,000 ODI runs.
