ICC in association with BCCI announced the schedule of the 2023 ODI World Cup yesterday during an event in Mumbai. India will play its first match against the five-time champions Australia on October 8 in Chennai. Indian fans are already looking for some miracle so India can bring another ICC trophy home. In the 2011 World Cup when Team India clinched the title, it was Yuvraj Singh who proved to be the most valuable asset for the team.
India is missing such an x-factor for a long time but former Indian batter K Srikanth has come up with a name that could imitate the same role that Yuvraj did for India back in 2011. According to Srikanth, the player is no one but the star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja who has been handy for the team in all three formats of the game.
Srikanth talked about the kind of pitches India have and how the all-rounder can prove to be a match-winner on such tracks.
While having a conversation on Sports Today with senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai, Srikanth said, “In India, some wickets give a good turn. There is not as much bounce here as in Australia. Neither does the movement found in England. The Indian team got used to these conditions. That is a big advantage for this team. And in the 2011 World Cup, we saw many all-rounders come and benefitted from such tracks.“
Srikanth further added, “At that time we had Yuvraj Singh. Now I think Ravindra Jadeja will fill that role. I believe Jadeja will do the same performance as Yuvraj did in 2011. If India is to win the World Cup this time, I strongly believe that people like Jadeja and Akshar Patel are very important.”
