In the match against Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2023, Shardul Thakur was given the new ball from the captain Rohit Sharma. With this, the former Indian cricketer Sanjay Bangar feels that Thakur will play most of the matches for India in the upcoming ODI World Cup.
Shardul Thakur delivered a memorable performance with figures of 3/65 in his 10 overs as Shakib Al Hasan and his team posted a total of 265/8 while batting first. Unfortunately, the Indian team was subsequently bowled out for 259 runs, resulting in a close six-run loss in the match.
While having a conversation on Star Sports, Sanjay Bangar gave his opinion on Shardul Thakur’s performance and said,”He is an extremely underrated bowler. The achievements he has had in the last two or three years, whether it is Test cricket or ODI cricket, he is a wicket-taker and goes slightly under the radar because the Indian bowling is so fantastic.”
The former batting coach further added,”Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and a bowler like Prasidh Krishna are spoken about but he is a player who has been with the Indian team for a long time. He has a lot of importance as an all-rounder and the reason for Rohit giving him the new ball is that he will probably play most of the matches in the World Cup.”
With the new ball, Shardul Thakur dismissed Tanzid Hasan and Anamul Haque. He then dismissed the captain Shakib-al-Hasan in the later part of the game.
