‘ He should learn to play…’ Indian Former Star Strongly Criticise Shreyas Iyer Tactics

Shreyas Iyer

Team India’s middle-order batsman, Shreyas Iyer, has been dropped from the test set-up for the remaining three test matches. Shreyas Iyer had been under scanner for his performance in test cricket for quite a while.

However, Team India’s former opener, Aakash Chopra, feels that Shreyas Iyer needs to work on his technique to face short balls.

Shreyas Iyer looked completely out of touch in the first two test matches of the series, as he had scores of 35, 13, 27, and 29 under his belt. Iyer’s struggle with the bat was even seen in South Africa, where he made only 41 runs across four innings.

Aakash Chopra said that Shreyas Iyer was dropped as he has not been scoring runs in test matches from the past 12–13 innings and has been continuously falling pray to the short ball.

Chopra feels that it’s ok to get out on bounces, but the way Shreyas was tackling them, he was not looking convincing.

Chopra further went on to say that it’s not only Shreyas Iyer who was out of runs for team India in the test matches; apart from Shreyas, it was Shubhman Gill as well, who has not been scoring runs for team India in the longer formats of the game.

However, Shubhman Gill ended his bad patch by scoring a prolific 106 against England in the second test. Chopra said that irrespective of Shubhman not scoring runs, he never looked ugly or worried, which is the case with Shreyas Iyer.

Team India is all set to face England for the third test match on February 15 at the Saurashtra cricket stadium.
