Former Indian batter Aakash Chopra has praised the star Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah on becoming the number one bowler across all formats of cricket. Bumrah is the only pacer in history to achieve this unique feat.
Bumrah climbed three spots, surpassing Ravichandran Ashwin to claim the top spot in the ICC Test rankings for bowlers. The Indian pacer’s exceptional performance, with 15 wickets in the first two Tests against England, earned him the Player of the Match award in the second game held in Visakhapatnam.
While talking on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said that Jasprit Bumrah has emerged in love for Test cricket among the fans.
The former batter said, “With what he (Bumrah) is doing currently, he is making us fall in love with Test cricket. When a batter scores a hundred or a double hundred, he stays at the crease for a long time, so it just captures your imagination a little more because you have seen him bat for seven hours.”
Aakash has praised Bumrah for giving his best even on abrupt Indian pitches.
In Tests in India, we look at spinners, because they pick up six or seven wickets, and 10 or 12 wickets in a Test match and you say – ‘Wow’. Fast bowlers, because they bowl short spells, don’t capture your imagination as much, especially in Indian conditions,” Chopra added.
Aakash Chopra has said that, unlike many contemporary players, Bumrah has showcased his skills and competence across all formats of the game.
“He is an amazing player. You generally don’t look for all-format players in modern-day cricket. The players are coming with that perspective and the selectors also are looking with that perspective.”
