Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra feels that Daryl Mitchell is a perfect addition to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as a powerful middle-order batsman.
The franchise from Chennai made a huge investment of INR 14 crore to secure the services of the New Zealand all-rounder in the IPL 2024 auction. Daryl Mitchell became their third addition to the squad after Rachin Ravindra and Shardul Thakur.
After the acquisitions of Daryl Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra, and Shardul Thakur, the Chennai-based franchise further strengthened their squad by securing Sameer Rizvi, Mustafizur Rahman, and Avanish Rao Aravelly. This completed their 25-member squad for the upcoming season.
While having a conversation on his official YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra asserted that MS Dhoni could include Daryl Mitchell in the playing XI in place of Moeen Ali.
The commentator said, “When you get two players (Rachin Ravindra and Shardul Thakur) very cheaply, you have options. You can do whatever you want. So they spent 14 crore rupees for Daryl Mitchell. Daryl Mitchell is a serious player. I had thought he would go for 8-10 crores but he went for 14.”
He further added, “He can be a proper replacement (for Moeen Ali). If you need an aggressive overseas batter in the middle-order, he could be that guy, because Moeen Ali’s stocks are going slightly down. He didn’t do anything with the bat last year as well, and the captain doesn’t get him to bowl quite a few times.”
Aakash Chopra claimed that the Kiwi all-rounder can be seen doing multiple jobs for CSK, adding him as the perfect replacement for Ambati Rayudu.
