“He can do some damage….” Brad Hogg’s Suggestion To Rick Ponting For Rishabh Pant In IPL 2023

Indian team is trying their best to keep Rishabh Pant in the team; they have tried him in the middle order and even gave him a chance in the openings in T20I cricket and ODI. His performance in test cricket is exceptionally good, but his success is still under the mark in limited-overs formats.

Comparing the stats of Pant in the three formats, we have seen his test figures are really impressive. He has scored 2169 runs with a splendid average of 43.38 in the test. In one-day internationals, he has 865 runs to his name in 30 matches at an average of 34.60. His average in T20Is is 22.43, and Rishabh has scored 987 runs in 66 matches.

Looking at these issues, Former Australian Cricketer Brad Hogg explained on his YouTube Channel that Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting should send him in the opening rather than in the middle order in the upcoming season of the IPL.

“The only thing I want to see with Rishabh Pant right now is improvement in white-ball formats. When the field is spread, he doesn’t seem to have much success as he has in Test cricket. He’s up there at the IPL with Ricky Ponting. I think we’ll see a big IPL from Rishabh Pant this year. He’ll attack the game differently and have a different role. Hopefully, Ricky Ponting gets him to open rather than (sending him) down the list,” said Brad Hogg.

Further, he suggested that in the powerplay, he can do tremendous damage to the opponent; even in the ODIs, he can do the same for the Indian team.

“With the powerplay, with only two fielders out, those six overs is where he can do some damage in T20 cricket. It’s the same in the 50-over game. Try and get him to open, where he can blast away in those first 10 overs with only two out. In the next 30 overs, you can only have four out. There are still one or two places in the outfield where he can attack,” he further added.
