‘He Bats Like MS Dhoni’, Sunil Gavaskar Supports This Batter To Be The KKR’s Opener In IPL 2024

Former Indian cricketer and one of the legends of the game Sunil Gavaskar has said that there is a player in Kolkata Knight Riders who plays exactly like the former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. This player is none other than the Afghanistani batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz.

Sunil Gavaskar said that Gurbaz possesses an aggressive style of batting and he should be the prime contender to be the opener of KKR in an upcoming edition of IPL 2024.

Sunil Gavaskar has supported Rahmanullah Gurbaz to be part of Kolkata Knight Riders’ overseas players for the upcoming season. Gurbaz may have to compete with Jason Roy for the last spot in the team. Gavaskar is discussing KKR’s challenge of choosing between wicket keeping and batting, especially if they decide to play Roy. In such a situation, Gavaskar sees Gurbaz as a possible solution to resolve this issue.

“I’ve been impressed with Gurbaz’s batting from what I’ve observed. He’s incredibly aggressive, and there’s a hint of MS Dhoni’s style in his approach, which is why I’m drawn to it,” he said.

Gavaskar is also impressed with the off-field deeds of the Gurbaz and his nature to help people.

“After the conclusion of the World Cup, he went on to contribute by providing financial assistance to those sleeping on the footpath. Such actions, in my opinion, make him a definite inclusion in the team,” he added.

Talking about the chances of KKR qualifying for the IPL 2024 playoffs, Sunil Gavaskar said that Indian batters like Shreyas Iyer, Venkatesh Iyer, Rinku Singh, and Nitish Rana need to perform really well.

“Securing a playoff qualification won’t come easy. They need to rely on their experience, not just in handling such pitches but also from their extensive participation in the IPL over the years.”
