Harry Brook Will Play In England Cricket Team Or Not? Former Captain Eoin Morgan Comes With A Massive Statement

The ODI World Cup is almost there where the tournament will start on September 7. The defending champions England Cricket Team has recently announced their provisional squad for the upcoming World Cup 2023 in which the destructive batter of England did not get a place.

The announcement of the squad brought a surprise to several individuals due to the absence of young Brook. Brook has already made a name for himself as one of the most promising prospects in international cricket. He has given some remarkable performances in different formats and his omission from the World Cup was not expected at all.

The exclusion of Harry Brook from the squad might be attributed to all-rounder Ben Stokes’ choice to come out of retirement for the World Cup. Former England captain Eoin Morgan shared a similar opinion. He said that Brook could not be selected in the team as there is a huge depth in the batting lineup of the team.

“In really good teams that have a lot of talent, but mainly a lot of success, there are really good players that miss out. When I look at the squad that has been selected, I can’t get Harry Brook into that squad. Simply because the return of Ben Stokes adds another middle-order player. Without him bowling, you do need a top-order player as a genuine replacement if somebody in the top order goes down,” Eoin Morgan told SkySports.

Former England captain also highlighted the importance of an extra spinner in the playing XI. He said that the need of a backup bowler could not be fulfilled by any batter.

“You need two seamers and an extra spinner, which they have cover for, but an extra batter in amongst that, I just can’t fit Harry Brook in, which is amazing to say,” he added.

England will play its first match against New Zealand on October 5 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
